Isometric Testing Errors

Isometric testing protocols are reliable and safe methods for measuring maximum strength capacity, however, consistency in the testing procedure is needed to guarantee accurate testing data.

Good Isometric Test

To maximise the accuracy and repeatability of testing you will want to consider the following:

  • Always make sure isometric testing is performed against an immovable object for example using a fixed rack or fixing the Pull-IT so something that cannot move, or using the Isometric Cap on the Push-IT against a wall.
  • Make sure there is no slack in the bar or across the Pull-IT by applying pretension to the device before performing an isometric test.
  • Always encourage the client to push/pull as hard and as fast as possible. Failure for the client to do so can result in testing that does not display the clients maximum threshold.
  • Encourage the client to maintain their effort for 3-5 seconds as a minimum.
