5-10-5 Pro Agility Test

The 5-10-5 Pro Agility Test is a standard measure of change-of-direction speed, acceleration, and agility. With AxIT Timing Gates, the test is simple to set up with either one gate as the start and finish or additional gates can be added at the turning points to collect split times for deeper performance insights.

Position: Place three markers in a straight line, each 5 yards (or 5 metres can be used) apart. Set the Start/Finish Gate at the centre marker. Optionally additional AxIT Timing Gates can be placed at the left and right markers to capture split times at each change of direction.

Cues: “Start in a ready stance straddling the centre line. Sprint 5 yards to touch the first line, then sprint 10 yards to touch the opposite line, and finally sprint back through the centre. Run at maximum effort and touch each line with your hand.”

Procedure:

Step 1 – Set up the gates

  • Place the Start/Finish Gate at the centre marker. Add optional gates at the left and right markers for split times.

Step 2 – Configure the app

  • Open the AxIT Timing Gate app. Tap Start Session, then select or create the athlete/team. Under Drill Category select Change Of Direction. Under Drill Type Select 5-10-5. In-Beam trigger is selected by default for this test.

Step 3 – Connect the gates

  • Power on all Timing Gates. Tap Scan in the app. Press the right-hand button on the gate you want to be the Master Gate (usually the Start/Finish Gate). Follow prompts to connect any additional gates. Use the Flash button if you need to identify or reorder gates if needed.

Step 4 – Run the trial

  • Position the athlete in a position In-Beam. The gate should flash and turn red to indicate the In-Beam trigger is activated. Tap Start Trial in the app. Timing automatically starts when the athlete triggers the test start. The athlete completes the sequence: 5 yards → 10 yards → back 5 yards. The trial ends when the athlete crosses the centre Finish Gate again. If additional gates are used, split times are recorded at each turn.

Step 5 – Save and review results

  • Tap Save Trial to record the result or Redo Trial to retry. Use the Leaderboard icon to view results or compare multiple athletes. Switch athletes quickly using the drop-down menu or Next button.
