Assessing Sprint And High Speed Athletes With Ash Gudgeon
In this recording, Ash Gudgeon, a seasoned osteopath and sprint coach, shares his expertise on return to sport and performance optimization in high speed athletes.
He discusses the importance of data-driven decisions, the challenges of managing recurring injuries, and the nuances of training sprinters versus field athletes.
Ashley also highlights the role of objective assessment tools such as AxIT timing gates, force plates and dynamometers in enhancing training outcomes and ensuring safe return-to-sport protocols.
Isometric Hamstring Testing Technique
Ash uses a different technique to assess his sprinted for assessing his sprinters Hamstring RFD. Rather than maintaining contact with the force plate in a 90/90 position he get's his athletes to hover their foot approximately 5cm off the plate, before contracting down hard with their heel to exert force. This better reflects the demands of sprinting in an flexed hip position and can result in more specific deficiencies or imbalances being captured.
