Pull-IT Spinal Extension

Position: This test required the use of gym equipment such as Hyper Extension or Roman Chair. *Note* The client should be locked into this equipment with hips extended and slight flexion in spine to maximise activate of Erector Spinae as oppose to Gluteal and Hamstring muscles. The Pull-IT should be mounted in a low position perpendicular to the level of the shoulders. A strap or dips belt can be used to loop over the shoulders to provide a comfortable point of contact.

Cues: Squeeze Glutes before positioning for extension test. Extend as fast and as hard as you can and hold until I say stop - 3 to 5 seconds

Procedure:

Step 1 - Position in the Hyper Extension position as described

Step 2 - Position the strap or belt at the level of the shoulders and shoulder blades

Step 3 - Push the START button

Step 4 - Ask client to extend as fast and as hard as you can and hold for until I say stop.

Step 5 - Rest for 3-5 seconds, repeat step 4 two more times

Step 6 - Push STOP
