Timing Gate Quick Start Guide: Setting Up Your First Test

Welcome to your new AxIT Timing Gates. This guide will walk you through the fastest way to set up and run your very first test. No complicated calibration, no reflectors - just set up, switch on, and start testing.

Step 1: Set Up the Timing Gates

  • Position your timing gates for the specific assessment you’ll be running (for example, a 10m sprint).
  • Adjust the gates so their sensors are level with the athlete’s torso for optimal detection.

⚡ Make sure both gates are fully charged before your first session.

Step 2: Launch a New Session

  • Open the AxIT Timing Gate app on your smart device.
  • Tap Start Session.
  • Select whether you’re assessing a Team or an Individual.
  • To add a new athlete or team, tap Create Athlete or Create Team and enter the relevant details.

Step 3: Select Your Test

  • Pick the category for your assessment. For this scenario: Sprint > 10m Sprint.
  • Choose the trigger method:
    • Standard – the timer begins when the athlete breaks the Start Gate beam.
    • In-beam trigger – the athlete begins positioned between the gates (activated once start gate light turns red) and timing starts when they exit.
  • Tap Next to continue.

Step 4: Connect the Gates

  • Ensure each gate is powered on.
  • Within the app, tap Scan.
  • Press the right button (button 2) on the gate you want to designate as the Master Gate (usually the closest gate for operator convenience).
  • Follow on-screen prompts to connect any additional gates as needed.
  • If you need to identify and reorder gates—for example, to capture split times—use the Flash button.

Step 5: Calibrate and Begin

  • Once you’ve selected the gates, they’ll sync automatically.
  • Tap Start to load your chosen drill and complete calibration.
  • When ready, tap Start Trial to get set for the first run.

To modify testing mode, use the top left menu:

Step 6: Conduct the Assessment

  • For sprints, have the athlete stand just behind the Start Gate.

  • Crossing the Finish Gate stops the timer.

Step 7: Save or Re-Test

  • After every run, you can:
    • Tap Redo Trial to discard and try again.
    • Tap Save Trial to record the result for the selected athlete or team.
  • Repeat as many trials as required.

Step 8: Review Performance

  • Tap the Leaderboard icon (top right) to see test results.
  • Switch athletes using the drop-down or Next button.

Step 9: End Your Session

  • When you’re finished testing, tap the red Exit button at the top right to close the session.
