Timing Gate Quick Start Guide: Setting Up Your First Test

Welcome to your new AxIT Timing Gates. This guide will walk you through the fastest way to set up and run your very first test. No complicated calibration, no reflectors - just set up, switch on, and start testing.

 

Step 1: Set Up the Timing Gates

  • Position your timing gates for the specific assessment you’ll be running (for example, a 10m sprint).
  • Adjust the gates so their sensors are level with the athlete’s torso for optimal detection.
  • V3 Timing Gates can also be positioned at a low position and angled up toward the athlete.

⚙️ Trigger distance and sensitivity for tests can be adjusted in the settings.

Step 2: Launch a New Session

  • Open the AxIT Timing Gate app on your smart device.
  • Tap Start Session.
  • Select whether you’re assessing a Team or Solo.
  • To add a new athlete or team, tap Create Athlete or Create Team and enter the relevant details.

Step 3: Select Your Test

  • Pick the category for your assessment. For this scenario: Sprint > 10m Sprint.
  • Choose the trigger method:
    • Standard – the timer begins when the athlete breaks the Start Gate beam.

    • In-beam trigger – the athlete begins positioned within the gate Start Gate beam (activated once start gate light turns red) and timing starts when they exit.

  • Tap Next to continue.

Step 4: Connect the Gates

  • Ensure each gate is powered on.
  • Within the app, tap Scan.
  • Press the right button (button 2) on the gate you want to designate as the Master Gate (usually the closest gate for operator convenience).

  • Follow on-screen prompts to connect any additional gates as needed.
  • If you need to identify and reorder gates—for example, to capture split times—use the Flash button.

Step 5: Calibrate and Begin

  • Once you’ve selected the gates, they’ll sync automatically.
  • Tap Start to load your chosen drill and complete calibration.
  • When ready, tap Start Trial to get set for the first run.
  • To modify testing mode, use the top left menu:

  • Normal – select athletes and save times manually.
  • Automatic – automatically saves athletes results to the cloud, select next athlete manually.
  • Auto Team - automatically saves athletes results to the cloud and automatically switched to the next athlete in the group. Best for team testing.

Step 6: Conduct the Assessment

  • As the athlete breaks or exit the first beam, the timer starts automatically.
  • Crossing the Finish Gate stops the timer
  • For reactive tests the individual, must interact with the correct light as fast as possible for the set number of rounds.
  • For memory tests the individual will be shown a combination of lights that must be interacted with in the correct order. Levels will progress in difficulty.

Step 7: Save or Re-Test

  • After every run, you can:
    • Tap Redo Trial to discard and try again.
    • Tap Save Trial to record the result for the selected athlete or team.
  • Repeat as many trials as required.

Step 8: Review Performance

  • Swipe up from the bottom to see the best results for each individual. 
  • Swipe left on each individual to dive deeper into their results.

Step 9: End Your Session

  • When you’re finished testing, tap the red Exit button at the top right to close the session.
