What Is Balance COP Total Excursion
Total excursion measures how far the Center Of Pressure (COP) moves during an assessment. This metric is a basic measure derived from the COP trace. Notably, the total excursion naturally varies with the duration of the assessment; for example, the total excursion for a 30-second balance test is roughly double that of a 15-second test. Therefore, meaningful comparisons of total excursion values can only be made between assessments of the same duration.
In general, a lower total excursion value suggests adept postural control, while a higher total excursion value indicates challenges in balancing, often linked to issues such as poor proprioception or muscle control.
